After a Monday of rest well spent drinking coconuts juice and napping under the palm trees to recover from the Indonesian Grand Prix emotions, the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 MotoGP™ squad has now travelled to the Land of the Rising Sun for the iconic Motul Grand Prix of Japan. The Mobility Resort Motegi circuit, a 4.8km layout with fourteen corners, eight right and six left, and a particular demand for braking, awaits both Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez who will be looking forward to completing this first tripleheader in a good way.
Pedro Acosta did his things last weekend in Mandalika, qualifying on the front row, finishing 6th of the Tissot Sprint, before claiming a brilliant P2 on Sunday’s race to make it podium number 4 on a Sunday in MotoGP.™ The in-form rookie will look to keep the momentum going on a track where he has always been competitive, including last season when he was on the podium in Moto2™. On a track that has seen the Pierer Mobility bikes perform well in the last few years, the young shark will want to bring his RC16 amongst the fight for the win too, as he gets hungrier weekend after weekend of a maiden win in the premier class. Last weekend he dared to dream, it was not meant to be, but the cards have been redistributed ahead of this new race week, so let’s play!
Augusto Fernandez was quite unlucky in Mandalika, forced to retire in the main race due to a technical issue, so the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 rider is already looking forward to getting back on track and making amendments. Motegi was one of his best weekends in his rookie season, with a 7th place through the torrential rain of the Sunday afternoon. The feeling has not been the best lately, but Fernandez is working hard to turn things around, and Japan might be the place where he can finally do so.
Watch out for the schedule as we will be 7 hours ahead of European time (GMT+9), as another packed-action weekend of MotoGP™ awaits us at Motegi. The action of the Grand Prix of Japan will start on Friday morning at 10:45 local time (GMT+9) with Free Practice 1, followed later on by the Practice session at 15:00. On Saturday, Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez will return to their RC16s at 10:10 for Free Practice 2, before qualifying starts at 10:50. In the afternoon, the Tissot Sprint will see the best riders of the world fight for the gold medal, at 15:00 for 12 laps. Finally, the big show will be on Sunday with the main race, scheduled at 14:00 (GMT+9), for 24 laps!
