#AustralianGP - October 20, 2024

Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 leaves Phillip Island with a bittersweet feeling, as Pedro Acosta was declared unfit to race on Sunday morning after a medical check. His sprint crash from yesterday caused him a left shoulder trauma, and the pain was still too intense on Sunday morning. The young rookie will use the few days until Thailand to rest his body as much as he can. Augusto Fernandez was the sole representative of GASGAS Tech3 on the grid, and he finished 17th of the Qatar Airways Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Fully motivated after his 9th place in the Tissot Sprint on Saturday, Augusto Fernandez headed back to the grid for 27 laps this time, and the sun finally joined the party setting the riders with great conditions ahead of the final showdown of the weekend. Lights out at 14:00 local time (GMT+11)! Fernandez held his grid position after one lap before moving up to 16th the next lap behind Jack Miller, with Aleix Espargaro behind. Jack Miller went further at the front, leaving Fernandez behind Marini. He found the space to move past the HRC rider on lap 7, with Espargaro following him. P14 after seven laps, with Alex Rins 0.7 seconds ahead. The Aprilia rider then took the best of Augusto’s slipstream, and then he was in P15. A few laps better, he was overtaken by both Luca Marini and Alex Marquez, and he found himself back in P17, behind Espargaro who had too lost a bit of ground. He remained close to the #41 for many laps and eventually moved past him on lap 24, in P16. The top 15 appeared tough with Marquez one second away, but unfortunately Fernandez was overtaken on the last straight by Espargaro, and he will have to settle with 17th.

That’s it for Phillip Island for this year, the team will now head to Buriram for the Grand Prix of Thailand!

"Tough race, I expected much better to be honest after yesterday's sprint. The conditions were better, dry and sunny, less wind, so it was a really fast race. Our feeling was not the same. There were moments  when I felt good, but I could not hold that rhythm all race long. Let's analyse everything and see if there are some things to bring to the next race to continue improving in Thailand."

"Another tricky weekend for the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 MotoGP team in Australia. After yesterday's crash, Pedro Acosta was in pain. Nothing broken was detected after his check, but he needed to be reviewed this morning. Unfortunately, he still felt a lot of pain when he woke up, and it was decided that he should not race for safety reasons, and take further examinations. We should have more info in the next couple of hours. That meant we just had one rider on the grid. We expected a little bit more from Augusto Fernandez to be honest after his sprint race and the positive comments, but he again felt some issues in the main race, and 17th was the best he could do today. It is a disappointment on both sides of the garage of course. All we can do is wish a speedy recovery to Pedro, as we hope to see him in Thailand next week, while we will continue to help Augusto so he can perform as best as he can for the last races. Let's pack and head to Buriram in Thailand for the next round next week."
