Less than 24 hours after the Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera, Enea Bastianini and Maverick Viñales were already back at it with a busy day of testing on Monday at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Both riders completed a total of 136 laps between the two of them, with Bastianini closing the final testing day of the 2025 season in P12, followed by teammate Viñales with the 13th time of the day.
As 9:00 rang the start of the last testing day of the season, Enea Bastianini was on track at 9:45 as he joined the early birds with a busy day on the menu. The main aim was to try a few different set ups to improve the general feeling of the bike, but there was also that front-vibration feeling to try getting rid of. Small improvements were made for Enea who admitted to find better sensations, especially in the sector 3 which was his weakness at the weekend. Enea completed a total of 44 laps at lunch time with a fastest lap in 1'31.048 as he placed his KTM in P10. The work continued in the afternoon for the Italian, as he went through his busy testing schedule. After another 28 laps, the lap time was not improved, but he gathered key data, as he hopes to be able to arrive to the next round with improvements!
Maverick Viñales joined the action a bit later this morning, at around 10:30. With the Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider still recovering and not at his 100%, the main target of the day was to get the laps in, improve the feeling, the strength, and progressively get back to pace. No particular new items were tried by the Spaniard, as he focused on himself to arrive at the flyway races in the best shape possible. At lunch time, he had completed 30 laps with a best 1'31.616 (+0.902 off session 1 leader, Alex Marquez). 'Top Gun' then completed another 34 laps in the afternoon session as he rode all the way until the end of the day. He improved his lap time with a 1'31.217 as the sun started to go down, just before the end of the checkered flag.
Busy day at work, many laps done and settings tried, let's gather the data, analyse, make decisions, as we are now heading to Asia for the Grand Prix of Japan, on September 26-27-28!
ENEA BASTIANINI: "We have tried small things on the bike today, with one of the focus the vibration at the front as we struggled all weekend with that. We were able to find improvements, although we have not completely resolved the problem. The track conditions were different to the weekend, the grip was different and the wind in sector 3 helped us for the corner entry, so it is difficult to make a clear comparison with the weekend, but we were losing less in that area compared to the other riders, so it is a good point. Let’s see if we can improve when we go to new tracks!"
MAVERICK VIÑALES: "The test went well for us today, it was very important to be able to get as many laps as possible to get some strength back. Our performance is not at the maximum, but we are feeling good. We have not been testing anything new to be honest, because I am unable to bring the package to the maximum, and the bike is already really good. The focus was on ourselves today, and I am happy with how the day went."
NICOLAS GOYON, Team Manager: "A positive testing day overall for both our riders here in Misano! Enea Bastianini had the opportunity to try a few different systems, and most of them were positive, especially on the suspension side as he found a configuration that helped him stop the bike more efficiently, so we hope it will be useful for the next races in Motegi. We also tried an anti-vibration system, which helped him, so we are happy with the work done after over 70 laps! Maverick Viñales surprised us as he completed more than 60 laps! He confirmed - or re-confirmed - a few options which were taken recently, so we think he has the best configuration for him at the moment. He now has 10 days to recover and continue his rehabilitation, and I'm sure that he will arrive at Motegi well prepared! Time to pack, and see you in Japan!"
