#ThaiGP - October 25, 2024

MotoGP™ was back in action for the second leg of the tripleheader, as Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 got their PT Grand Prix of Thailand campaign started. Doubts about Pedro Acosta were lifted after Thursday's medical check as the rookie was given the green light to participate in Friday morning’s Free Practice 1. As the pain was manageable, the shark was able to get on with his day, and he did so brilliantly as he got his Q2 ticket with the 7th time of Practice. Augusto Fernandez finished in P20 and will face qualifying 1 on Saturday morning.

The few days between Australia and Thailand were essential for Pedro Acosta who had time to take care of his body and start his recovery process. With the pain on his left shoulder less important, the rookie was able to return on track on Friday morning. Free Practice 1 was about understanding how to handle the pain, while trying to adjust the bike setup to make Acosta’s position more comfortable. After twenty laps, the feeling appeared good for the young shark who took the 7th time with a 1’30.906. The afternoon’s Practice session turned out to be intense and extremely tight. As seventeen riders finished less than one second from each other, Acosta managed to find that final spark on his last flying lap to lap-in a 1'29.602 to make an entrance in the final top 10, after he had been ejected from it with the final time attacks flying all over the places. Great accomplishment from the Shark who will go directly to Q2 on Saturday morning.

The first day at the Chang International Circuit was a bit more difficult for Augusto Fernandez, and the changes of conditions were also tough to handle. From the windy and cold Phillip Island, riders had to quickly accustom themselves with the hot and humid weather of Buriram. In the morning’s Free Practice 1, Augusto’s best of his nineteen first laps was a 1’31.543, just 1.051 seconds from the fastest lap. As things got hotter and spicier in the afternoon’s Practice, the Spaniard found confidence with used tyres, but he seemed to struggle to make improvements when he changed to medium tyres and he was not able to make the progress he was targeting. In the final time attacks, he made a late improvement to 1'30.429, a lap time that placed him 20th at the end of the session. He will have to go through Q1 on Saturday morning, but he will have the chance to look for some improvements in Free Practice 2 as the action returns at 10:10 local time (GMT+7).

"I am super happy to be back on the bike! The shoulder feels good, it took us a few laps to warm it up properly, but once done, the pain was manageable. FP1 was about understanding how we could ride with the shoulder, maybe adjust the bike so I can feel more comfortable on the bike for the brakes. In Practice, we felt good, I am happy to finish in the top 10, let’s see how we can approach Saturday, which will be more demanding physically for us."

"The final result is not good, but I did feel pretty good all day with the used tyres and the race pace. When we changed to medium tyres, we made no improvements, so I did my best time in the second run of Practice. It is a bit strange, so we will look into it and try making improvements for tomorrow."
