In sunny but windy conditions, Iker Lecuona showed his talent today. The Tech3 KTM Factory Racing rider made a huge step compared to Friday and went nearly two seconds quicker. He was fourth fastest in FP4 and went to Q1 with high confidence. Thereby, he did the second fastest time with a 1:39.171 to progress to Qualifying two. In the final session of the day, he lost out on the top by just 0.662 seconds, landed inside the top 10 and was the fastest KTM rider of Saturday.
At the same time, Danilo Petrucci did his best lap time at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Qualifying one today. The Italian lowered his lap time from day one by 0.636 seconds to finish in fifth position, which is his second-best Qualifying result of this season. He will line up in the fifth row tomorrow when the red lights turn off at 13:00 local time (14:00 CET) for the penultimate race of 2021.
"It was a very good day! All day I felt very strong. Yesterday we did a good job already and this morning in FP3 we kept the way, we improved and I went out alone. I had a very strong pace. On my fast lap I was alone as well and made it nearly directly to Q2, so I was very confident for this afternoon. In Qualifying we have been working for the race, which was successful as well.”
“In Q1, I was alone one more time and I felt very strong. In Q2, we didn’t have any new rear tyre left, so I went out with used ones. With another new soft, I think I could have made it into the first three rows, but it’s ok. I’m really happy and want to say thanks to my team, because we are working really hard and we are more than ready for tomorrow."
"I’m happy about the work we did. Qualifying was quite good. We still have to find the perfect setup, but I feel good. I don’t think we have to change a lot for tomorrow. Yet, the tyre choice will surely be the key. Our starting position is pretty decent this time, we are close to the others and I’m really satisfied with how everything went today."
