Launching the 12th round of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship from P18 on the grid Tech3 KTM Factory Racing’s Iker Lecuona had a rocket start to make up six positions already on the first lap. In the course of the race, he improved his rhythm with each lap and started to pass one rider by another until he eventually was eighth ahead of the last lap and managed to do a last minute pass to finally finish seventh, which is his second best premier class result to date.
Overcast Saturday at the British Grand Prix brought some steps in the right direction for both Tech3 KTM Factory Racing riders. Thereby, Danilo Petrucci went already 0.86 seconds quicker in FP3 this morning than on Friday and following a consistent FP4 the Italian managed to break through the 2 minutes barrier in Qualifying one. He concluded the important session in sixth with less than half a second to the top 2 and yet landed his best starting position to date this season.
Although Iker Lecuona is riding the Silverstone Circuit on a MotoGP bike for the first time ever today, he showed some great progress throughout Friday. After finishing FP1 in P17, the Tech3 KTM Factory Racing rider improved by nearly two seconds in the second session of the weekend to conclude Friday in 11th, whereas he was missing out on the provisional Q2 spots by just 0.013 seconds.
