The Michelin Grand Prix of Styria marks the beginning of the second half of the 2021 MotoGP season this weekend and means the first of two very special back to back rounds for Tech3 KTM Factory Racing at the team manufacturers home circuit. Thereby, the Red Bull Ring holds exceptional memories for the French crew, which celebrated a very first win in the premier class one year ago with Miguel Oliveira.
Yet, the current Tech3 KTM Factory Racing riders aim to turn around their season at the Austrian venue and give a strong signal as well. Both, Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecuona come back from the summer break well recovered following an intense first half of 2021. Petrucci and Lecuona will start their chase for amends highly motivated this Friday at 9.55 local time with Free Practice one.
“Finally, we are close to come back to racing and I can’t wait to try my KTM RC16 at the Red Bull Ring, where we will have back to back events. There are some straights, where we definitely have some work to do, but I had a good month of recovery and I want to start the second part of the season in a proper way in order to be clearly better than in this first half of 2021.”
“I can’t wait to start the second part of the season! I was training a lot during the summer in order to arrive in Austria well prepared. I like the Red Bull Ring a lot, because last year I ended up two times inside the top 10 at this circuit. I know the KTM works very well there and it’s one of my favorite tracks. So, I expect, that I can keep up with the front and fight for a top 10 result again.”
“After the very nice summer break the whole MotoGP paddock enjoyed, it’s time for everyone to go back to business. We at Tech3 KTM Factory Racing are of course very eager to travel to Spielberg where we will have two important races. Everybody knows it’s the home Grand Prix for our manufacturer, therefore this meeting is very important for us.”
“Obviously, we have great memories from last year when we got our first ever MotoGP victory with Miguel Oliveira, which we won’t forget. Yet, we know the KTM RC16 is working very well at the Austrian venue, so we are targeting top 10 results with Danilo and Iker this year. I’m sure they will be fired up to show their true potential after this long break.”
“Apart from that, the Red Bull Ring is a beautiful circuit in amazing surroundings. I think you can’t find a better place to start the second part of the season. Everybody is more than ready to meet there and Tech3 KTM Factory Racing can’t wait to restart!”
