Starting his home round from P18 on the grid, Tech3 KTM Factory Racing’s Danilo Petrucci came off the line well and made up three positions already on the first lap. Step by step he worked his way further towards the front, being 12th midway through the 23 laps encounter. With a solid performance he eventually crossed the line in ninth, which is his best result on dry tarmac so far.
Starting Saturday with an improvement of 0.774 seconds compared to FP2 on Friday, Danilo Petrucci made some clear progress in FP3. After trying different solutions on his KTM RC16, the local hero did the eighth fastest lap in Qualifying, which made him miss out on a Q2 spot by half a second and will start his home Grand Prix tomorrow at 14:00 local time from the sixth row of the grid.
Sunny Friday started with some decent steps forward for Danilo Petrucci. The latest MotoGP race winner at the Mugello circuit made up 1.19 seconds from FP1 to FP2 today, which also lifted him up from P18 to the top 15 in Free Practice two, although the Italian concluded day one 16th in the overall standings. Yet, he missed out on a possible Q2 entry by just 0.441 seconds in the ultra-competitive premier class field.
