Following a Friday of improvements, Tech3 KTM Factory Racing’s Danilo Petrucci did another step throughout Saturday at the Losail International Circuit. Although FP3 was literally blown away by the wind, he showed a strong Qualifying. Doing the decisive laps on his own, he managed to conclude Q1 in P7, missing out on the top two by just 0.308 seconds.
Iker Lecuona likewise bettered his starting position compared to one week ago. The young Spaniard moved forward to P10 in Q1 this evening and was just 0.203 seconds slower than his teammate. He’ll start the Grand Prix of Doha tomorrow at 20.00 local time (19.00 CET) from the eighth row of the grid.
Overall, I’m happy about my sensations on the bike, we improved a bit, but we are still not, where we want to be. We found some small refinements today, although I have to say, it’s not as much as I want, because I think our potential is higher. We tried something different with the tyres in FP4 and also something different in terms of electronics. But for sure, we need to improve.”
“I think I could have been faster on my single lap, but I was completely alone and with this wind, it was quite difficult. Still, I’m happy about the progress. For sure, I’m missing some speed, which could be not easy to manage tomorrow. But we are working on this and try to find some km/h more.”
“I have to admit, that I’m not satisfied. Obviously, we are quite far back on the grid again, although we improved one position and above all, my feeling with the bike is way better and also our pace compared to last week.”
“Regarding all these factors, I expect to have a good race tomorrow and I know that I’m capable of fighting for the points. So, I’ll try my best when the red lights go off for round two.”
