Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Iker Lecuona did a strong Qualifying at MotorLand Aragón today. He went quicker with each session of the day and eventually improved on his Friday’s best by 1.16 seconds during Qualifying one, which saw him concluding the session in P5, just 0.268 seconds behind a possible Q2 entry. The Spanish premier class rookie will have to commence his 10th MotoGP race in 2020 tomorrow from the fifth row.
It was a tough day at the office for Miguel Oliveira. After the Portuguese managed to lower his Friday’s pace to just narrowly miss out on a direct Q2 entry with P11 in FP3 this morning, he went quicker again in Qualifying one, but ended up eighth, 0.426 seconds behind his teammate. Yet, the Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider is eager for a comeback from the sixth row of the grid when the red lights go off tomorrow at 15.00 local time for the Gran Premio Michelin de Aragón.
"I’m really happy. In FP3 I struggled a little bit with the bike, it was difficult to use the extra grip of a new tyre. In FP4 we tried two different bikes and I felt good with one of them. In Qualifying I just tried to push as much as I can and I went out alone. In the end, I managed to do a 1:48.0, so it’s a very good lap time for me. Thanks to me team, they did a great job again and helped me a lot. We’ll see what we can achieve in tomorrow’s race."
"It has been a difficult Qualifying. I had the same issues as yesterday with a new tyre. I’ve had quite many difficulties to find traction on the track and in fact together with my team we tried many things to fix it, but unfortunately, it looks like the direction was not right. So we will try again tomorrow and hope for a good race."
