With a fantastic FP3 in his pocket, Miguel Oliveira went full of confidence in today’s Qualifying at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. He concluded the three Free Practices in third overall, went directly to Q2 and was working on his race pace during FP4. Unfortunately, the Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider had a minor fall at the beginning of Q2, which robbed him off the chances to be right in the mix at the end. Yet, the Portuguese was 12th fastest and will start the eighth round of 2020 from row four.
At the same time, his Red Bull KTM Tech3 teammate Iker Lecuona experienced a tough day at the office. The Spanish youngster went quicker in Qualifying than he did in FP3, although he went down this morning, which means he had to regain his confidence during the fourth Free Practice. He completed Q1 in P19 and is set to start the Catalan GP tomorrow at 15:00 local time from row seven of the grid.
"It was a tough Qualifying. This morning, we finished with a very good feeling. This afternoon, the conditions changed a bit and I was not so comfortable riding the medium front tyre. I crashed on my fastest lap in Qualifying and lost a bit the feeling, which means I couldn’t do any better than this morning. I’m a bit disappointed about this, but we have a long race tomorrow, which will be very difficult, so we hope to do a clever race and arrive as close to the top as we can."
"It’s difficult to say a lot about today. I struggled a lot and lost all my confidence when I crashed this morning. In FP4, I tried to improve my feeling with the bike, we didn’t change anything, but I was just trying. In Qualifying I managed to improve my lap time. Finally, it was not bad, but not good enough. Tomorrow is a new day and the most important of the week anyway."
