The Gran Premi de Cataluya got off a tricky start for the Red Bull KTM Tech3 team today. While Iker Lecuona did his first laps around the Cirucit de Barcelona-Catalunya, he managed to improve his lap time from FP1 to FP2 by 0.769 seconds, but also recorded a minor fall in both sessions. The premier class rookie concluded day one just 0.369 seconds behind the top 10.
On the other side of the Red Bull KTM Tech3 garage, Miguel Oliveira went quicker in this afternoon’s session as well. The Portuguese made up 0.564 seconds and eventually concluded Friday in 17th, just behind his teammate. Ahead of Free Practice three tomorrow at 9.55 local time, both Lecuona and Oliveira aim to upper their pace in order to claim a place in Q2.
"I have to admit, that I was struggling a lot with the front today. I had two crashes and didn’t really understand why, as there was no single warning. I felt good, but suddenly I lost the front. I need to work with the team now in order to try to find a good solution for tomorrow and hopefully we can improve."
"Today has been a difficult day for us. We couldn’t manage to find a good balance with the bike to gain some grip here on this track. Coming here, we knew that the grip level was not so high, but we didn’t expect to find so many issues. So, we will do our best together with the team to work on this in order to do a decent FP3 tomorrow morning."
